LOCK8 review – the ‘smart’ bike lock

A ‘smart’ bike lock with several in-built sensors has appeared on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter.

The lock claims it will be keyless, alarmed and offer GPS tracking, and even charges as you cycle using induction charging!

On top of this already full list of features, LOCK8 will have a thermometer to sense a heat attack on the lock, such as a blow torch or freezing of the lock, an accelerometer to detect attacks from tools such as an angle grinder.

As you can see from the video, the device is rather conspicuous. Other bike GPS trackers are often hidden in the seat post to prevent it being found and removed. I’d be interested to know how well the LOCK8 device could stand up to an attack.

The other concern is LOCK8 being keyless, and unlocked using your phone. Are you stuck if you run out of battery?

This lock isn’t yet available to buy, but if you really want one you can help them raise money on Kickstarter so the guys can get this built!

Please hurry up and build it, I’ve had my bike stolen twice. I want one. Please let me know when I can buy one.

Good Luck and many thanks
